Ableton Live Extensions SDK

Today Ableton announce official Extensions SDK - which allows you to create your own custom plug-ins and workflows to run from inside Ableton. Up to now people have hacked this with python and XML in past which is unsupported, Ableton are making it official with this new SDK. This opens up whole world of customizable extensibility to suit your needs. From timeline manipulations, sample chopping, automation of repetitive tasks, world is your oyster (though not all hooks are open, we assume they will be added over time). It uses Java Script (pretty common and well documented language), by offering SDK Ableton have opened up series of hooks and connection points, that code can interact with. JavaScript-based development kit is free and lets anyone build custom tools that integrate directly into Live Suite, allowing you to read and edit project structure via right-click access. Extensions run alongside Live and can read/write tracks, clips, parameters, and automation - Built using familiar web technologies, no proprietary languages to learn - Accessed via right-click anywhere in your Set, so they don't clutter workspace. Currently in public beta, requires Live 12 Suite and version 12.4.5 beta with examples and community support on Discord - 3rd-party developers can create tools under SDK license, though Ableton takes no responsibility for unofficial Extensions. For developers with JavaScript skills, this is direct pipeline into Live's architecture - you can build visualizers, workflow automatons, or bridges to external services without reverse-engineering anything. For average user, it means potential ecosystem of community-made tools that might solve your specific niggles, assuming someone else has already built them, or if you fancy having go, you can Vibe Code some of your own ideas. Feed documentation of SDK into an AI of your choice, and describe code you want... It doesn't replace Max for Live devices, but it could make utility scripts and set management tools more accessible to web developers who don't want to touch visual programming. Available in public beta right now, Extensions SDK is available for free via Ableton.com. Live 12 Suite users can join beta program and download Live 12.4.5 beta to get started.
