«Дай мне звезду, — твердит ребёнок сонный, - Дай, мамочка...» Она, обняв его, Сидит с ним на балконе, на ступеньках, ВедУщих в сад. А сад, степнОй, глухОй, Идёт, темнЕя, в сумрак летней ночи, По скАту к бАлке. В небе, на востоке, КраснЕет одинОкая звездА. «Дай, мамочка...» Она с улыбкой нежной Глядит в худое личико: «Что, милый?» «Вон ту звезду...» — «А для чего?» — «Играть...» ЛепЕчут листья сада. ТОнким свИстом СуркИ в степи скликАются. Ребёнок Спит на калЕне матери. И мать, ОбнЯв его, вздохнув счастлИвым вздОхом, ГлядИт большИми грустными глазами На тихую далёкую звезду… Прекрасна ты, душа людскАя! Небу, БездОнному, спокОйному, ночнОму, Мерцанью звёзд подОбна ты порой! [Verse] "Give me a star ," the sleepy child keeps saying. - Give me Mommy..."
