Historical facts • The City of Bath has two UNESCO entries: one from 1987 and one from 2021. • The first holy place by the hot springs was built by an Iron Age tribe called the Dobunni. • In the 18th century, Bath became the center of fashionable life in England. They built a theatre, the Royal Crescent, The Circus, and Pulteney Bridge. • In the Middle Ages, Bath was an important town for the wool industry. In the 18th century, under Kings George I, II, and III, it became an elegant spa city, famous in literature and art. • The main building style is Georgian. It came from the Palladian revival style (see fig. 6), which was popular in the early 18th century. • Bath became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Later, in 2021, it was added to the transnational site "Great Spa Towns of Europe". • Bath offers a great lifestyle, with festivals, theatre, music, and sports all year round. • The town of St. George was named after Saint George, the patron saint of England. At first, it was a base for English privateers and trade in the Caribbean. • St. George became an important British Empire outpost. Its location in the Atlantic helped with trade routes and defense against Spain and other enemies. • White limestone buildings, narrow streets, and public squares show the old colonial town layout. • The place became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
